VB6 Application Rewrite
A VB6 application needs to be rewritten with more modern tools, such as VB.Net or C#.
However, conversion tools can do a fair amount of the work but to be successful, you need to understand the full functionality of the VB6 code to make sure the new application does what it should.
When you decide to rewrite an old application, you have the golden opportunity to make changes in both functionality and appearance. We can sit down with you and define improvements to make the rewrite even more benificial.

We have a system called Relay which John Hind designed and developed for us. This was developed back in 2001 and is now our oldest production system still in operation. The reason for this is that it still works well and gives us very few support issues. Other production systems have since been replaced, upgraded and tweaked however this is difficult for Relay as without any major issues the business case to invest time and money to replace a working system such as Relay has proved difficult. The business justification for eventually replacing Relay will be one of lack of operating system support from Microsoft and/or lack of security patches for the server software.
In working with John during the development of Relay, we found him professional and very thorough. In addition to producing a working system, John’s ability to consider the user experience helped the design process and resulted in a system which is easy to use and only retrieves the required data at any time, thus minimising any performance related support challenges. One lasting memory I have from the Relay project was John’s method for testing the design of the system by producing paper based mock-ups of the proposed screens and passing them round a table of users who were acting out the business processes as the various system users. This paid dividends by rapidly finalising the requirements for each screen and each workflow process. The system development time was reduced a direct consequence of this approach. We have adopted this approach on several occasions since the Relay project.
All in all, working with John on the Relay system was a very positive experience.
